The aim of this study was to assess whether there are differences in the level attention focused and accuracy judges of soccer referee during the soccer match. For this purpose, the sample was composed of eight male referees accredited by the Paulista Football Federation, who officiate official matches of the U-20 Paulista championship in 2003. The test used was Concentrated Attention - Toulouse Piéron, which is designed to measure the speed and accuracy when performing simple tasks of identifying squares, perceptual in nature, without resorting to intellectual functions. The tests were recorded in real time during matches with a digital cam HANDYCAMTM model DCR. The chi-square test showed a significant difference between decisions taken in the first 30 minutes of the second half of the game when compared to the final fifteen minutes (...
The aim of the study was to evaluate and compare active and passive joint range of motion in children in relation to gender and age. This study involved 103 children (43 boys and 60 girls) categorized into two groups: G1 (7 to 9 years old) and G2 (10 to 12 years old). The flexitest protocol, active and passive, and the SAPO® were used to evaluate joint range of motion. A paired t test was applied to compare active and passive joint range of motion and an independent t test (p < .05) was used to compare active and passive range of motion between gender and age. Results showed that the passive joint ranges of motion of the lower limbs are higher than active motion (p < .001). Girls presented greater passive ankle flexion than boys did (p = .002). Children between 7 and 12 years of age presented similar standards of joint range of m...
The purpose of this study was to verify the electromyographic activity of the rectus abdominis and obliquus externus abdominis during abdominal crunch exercise performed with maximum and submaximum loads. Thirteen male and female university students participated in this investigation (18-23 years old). The subjects completed abdominal crunch exercise until exhaustion with 20, 40, 60 and 80% of the maximum load. The root-mean-square (RMS) from electromyography activity of the rectus abdominis and obliquus externus muscles from the first and last three repetitions from each workload performed was analyzed. RMS for the last repetitions increased in relation to the first repetitions for the 20% workload, first two repetitions on 40% workload and first repetition on the 80% workload. There was no difference for the 60% workload. Results sho...
The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of a strategy of attention in the learning of the long jump. The sample consisted of 55 children, with age ranging from 11 to 12 years. The study’s design consisted of a pre-test, post-test 1, post-test 2 and retention evaluation. After post-test 1, the children were divided into the cue group (CG), which received visual information (a fixed target on the wall) and a control group which did not receive the cue (NCG). Anova two-way and Tukey (HSD) post-hoc test were applied (p < .05). The results showed significant improvement in both groups as a result of practice, with no statistically significant effect of the cue in long jump performance. Thus, in spite of performance improvements, we conclude that the use of this learning cue was not specific enough to direct the attention of th...
The aim of the present study was to analyze the electric activity of the vastus medialis (VM) and vastus lateralis (VL) in two differing angles (70° and 90° of knee flexion) during maximum voluntary contraction in squat exercise. Fifteen male subjects composed the sample of the study. As criteria they were untrained for more than 12 months (age of 28.0 ± 4.6 years, height of 180.0 ± 5.2 cm, weight of 80.0 ± 3.2 kg and body index mass of 24.2 ± 1.6 kg/m²). Subjects accomplished three maximum voluntary isometric contractions (MVIC) in squat exercise with 70° and 90° of knee flexion and separate at least in 72 h each. Data normalization occurred by average of values in RMS. Procedure adopted followed ISEK's recommendations. No significant differences (p > .05) were found between the angles VL 70° vs VM 70°, VL 90° vs VM 90°, VL 70° vs ...
Human development emerges from the interactions between environmental and biological factors. This review focuses on the relationship between biological development and environmental experiences during infancy and adolescence and their implications for motor skill acquisition. During infancy, as a consequence of the accelerated development of the central nervous system, it is fundamental that a vast and adequate variation in environmental stimuli is supplied, favoring motor, cognitive and affective-social domains. In adolescence, biological alterations are associated with peaking testosterone and estradiol hormone production in males and females respectively and it is necessary to adjust motor stimulation to biological maturation and previous experiences. Motor skill acquisition during infancy has an important relation to continuity of...
