In autumn of 2008 and 2009, we studied the foraging habitat selection of Siberian Crane ( Grus leucogeranus ) in the Momoge Nature Reserve of Jilin province. Using the resource selection index, resource selection functions, and the chi-squared test, we found that the Siberian Crane exhibited selectivity in their preferred foraging environments in relation to the distance to human disturbances, vegetation density, coverage and height, foraging vegetation density and water level. Interestingly, this selectivity in regards to large scale disturbances was lower than other factors. The characteristics of favorite foraging habits of Siberian Cranes include a variety of factors: a distance > 5 000 m from a national highway, > 1 500 m from a non-gravel road, > 1 000 m from the nearest road, > 1 000 m from a residential area, > 1 000 m from fa...
We previously reported that the intronic tagSNP +357G/C in the metastasis suppressor HTPAP is associated with metastasis and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The aim of this study was to investigate whether SNPs in the HTPAP promoter modulate HTPAP expression and prognosis of HCC. Genomic DNA from 572 microdissected HCCs were genotyped by pyrosequencing and verified by direct sequencing. Haplotype blocks were analyzed. Reporter plasmids were constructed and transfected into HCC cell lines. Transcriptional activities of plasmids were analyzed by dual-luciferase reporter systems. HTPAP expression was measured by real-time quantitative PCR, western blots, and tissue microarrays. Invasion was assessed by Matrigel assays. The prognostic values of HTPAP promoter SNPs in HCC were evaluated by Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analys...
A π-extended, redox-active tetradentate tetrathiafulvalene-fused salphen [salphen = N,N′-phenylenebis(salicylideneimine)] compound (L) was prepared via a direct Schiff-base condensation of the corresponding diamine-tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) precursor with salicylaldehyde. Its chelating coordination ability has been demonstrated by the formation of the corresponding transition metal complexes in the presence of M(OAc)2·nH2O (M = Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II)) and FeCl3·6H2O. Three complexes have been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis showing that the TTF-salphen ligand coordinates to the metal ions in a planar mode through the nitrogen and oxygen atoms in a N2O2 cis-configuration. In the case of Fe(III), a dinuclear oxo-bridged Fe(III) complex is formed. These paramagnetic complexes are promising building blocks for the...
