This study assessed the psychological sense of community and the importance of community among students from PALOP and CPLP countries attending higher education at the University of Beira Interior (UBI), comparing gender and time of attendance at the UBI. The sample consisted of 153 students from PALOP and CPLP countries, 72 women and 81 men. We used the Scale of the Brief Sense of Community (Marante, 2010) and the Scale of Community Importance (Gonçalves, 2009), and a questionnaire. The results showed a high psychological sense of community, which may indicate the existence of social relations in the academic context, with strong social ties and awareness of needs and available resources.
