## A Combination of Preliminary Electroweak Measurements and Constraints on the Standard Model

This note presents a combination of published and preliminary electroweak results from the four LEP collaborations ALEPH, DELPHI, L3 and OPAL based on electron-positron collision data taken at centre-of-mass energies above the Z-pole, $130 \GeV$ to $209 \GeV$ (\LEPII), as prepared for the 2006 summer conferences. Averages are derived for di-fermion cross sections and forward-backward asymmetries, photon-pair, W-pair, Z-pair, single-W and single-Z cross sections, electroweak gauge boson couplings, W mass and width and W decay branching ratios. An investigation of the interference of photon and Z-boson exchange is presented, and colour reconnection and Bose-Einstein correlation analyses in W-pair production are combined. The main changes with respect to the experimental results presented in 2005 are new preliminary combinations of final ...

## A Combination of Preliminary Electroweak Measurements and Constraints on the Standard Model

This note presents a combination of published and preliminary electroweak results from the four LEP collaborations and the SLD collaboration which were prepared for the 2004 summer conferences. [...] The main changes with respect to the experimental results presented in summer 2003 are updates to the W branching fractions and four-fermion cross sections measured at LEP-2, and the SLD/LEP heavy-flavour results measured at the Z pole. The results are compared with precise electroweak measurements from other experiments, notably the final result on the electroweak mixing angle determined in neutrino-nucleon scattering by the NuTeV collaboration, the latest result in atomic parity violation in Caesium, and the measurement of the electroweak mixing angle in Moller scattering. The parameters of the Standard Model are evaluated, first using t...

## A combination of preliminary electroweak measurements and constraints on the standard model

This note presents a combination of published and preliminary electroweak results from the four LEP collaborations and the SLD collaboration which were prepared for the 2003 summer conferences. Averages from $\Zzero$ resonance results are derived for hadronic and leptonic cross sections, the leptonic forward-backward asymmetries, the $\tau$ polarisation asymmetries, the $\bb$ and $\cc$ partial widths and forward-backward asymmetries and the $\qq$ charge asymmetry. Above the $\Zzero$ resonance, averages are derived for di-fermion cross sections and forward-backward asymmetries, photon-pair, W-pair, Z-pair, single-W and single-Z cross sections, electroweak gauge boson couplings, W mass and width and W decay branching ratios. Also, an investigation of the interference of photon and Z-boson exchange is presented, and colour reconnection an...

## BABAR silicon vertex tracker: Status and prospects

The BABAR Silicon Vertex Tracker (SVT) has been efficiently operated for six years since the start of data taking in 1999. Due to higher than expected background levels some unforeseen effects have appeared. We discuss: a shift in the pedestal for the channels of the AToM readout chips that are most exposed to radiation; an anomalous increase in the bias leakage current for the modules in the outer layers. Estimates of future radiation doses and occupancies are shown together with the extrapolated detector performance and lifetime, in light of the new observations. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. ## Measurement of the ZZ cross-section in e(+)e(-) interactions at 183-189 GeV

Measurements of on-shell ZZ production are described, using data collected by DELPHI in 1997 and 1998, at centre-of-mass energies roots = 182.6 GeV and 188.6 GeV, respectively. Results obtained in each of the final states q (q) over barq (q) over bar, mu (+)mu (-) q (q) over bar e(+)e(-)q (q) over bar, nu[([nu])over bar]q (q) over bar, l(+)l(-)l(+)l(-), and nu[([nu])over bar]l(+)l(-) are presented. The measured cross- sections for on-shell ZZ production via the tree-level doubly- resonant graphs (NC02) are: sigma (NC02) (182.6 GeV) = 0.38 +/- 0.18 (stat) +/- 0.04 (syst) pb, sigma (NC02) (188.6 GeV) = 0.60+/-0.13 (stat) +/- 0.07 (syst) pb. They are consistent with the Standard Model expectations of 0.25 and 0.65 pb at each energy.

## b-tagging in DELPHI at LEP

The standard method used for tagging b-hadrons in the DELPHI experiment at the CERN LEP Collider is discussed in detail. The main ingredient of b-tagging is the impact parameters of tracks, which relies mostly on the vertex detector. Additional information, such as the mass of particles associated to a secondary vertex, significantly improves the selection efficiency and the background suppression. The paper describes various discriminating variables used for the tagging and the procedure of their combination. In addition, applications of b-tagging to some physics analyses, which depend crucially on the performance and reliability of b-tagging, are described briefly.
