The paper investigates the use of Singular and Modular Neural Networks in classifying the Malay syllable sounds in a speaker-independent manner. The syllable sounds are initialized with plosives and followed by vowels. The speech tokens are sampled at 16 kHz with 16-bit resolution. Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) is used to extract the speech features. The Neural Networks utilize standard three-layer Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) as the speech sound classifier. The MLPs are trained with stochastic Back-Propagation (BP). The weights of the networks are updated after presentation of each training token and the sequence of the epoch is randomized after every epoch. This paper presents the initial result of an investigation into the application of ultrasonic sensors for a tomographic imaging system. Transmitters and receivers are mounted permanently on the inner part of the vertical flow pi pe. To overcome the problems of objects blocking each other, four pairs of sensors are used, mounted around the area of interest, and views from different angles are obtained. The results obtained show that the system is capable of detecting particle flow.
Fuel cell systems are being developed for powering clean, efficient automobiles of the future. The proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) systems being developed for such use require a fuel gas that is either pure hydrogen, or a gas mixture that contains significant concentration of hydrogen. Thus, the vehicles with gasoline as the on-board fuel use a fuel processor, also referred to as an autothermal reformer, to convert gasoline to a fuel gas and reformate, that contains hydrogen, carbon dioxide, water vapor, and nitrogen, with trace levels of other species, such as carbon monoxide and unconverted gasoline. Aspek etika profesion perguruan yang dilihat dalam kajian ini adalah perkara yang berkaitan dengan tanggungjawab guru terhadap pelajar, tanggungjawab guru terhadap masyarakat dan negara, tanggungjawab guru terhadap rakan sejawat dan profesion dan tanggungjawab guru terhadap ibu bapa. This paper describes a design procedure for a fuzzy logic based power system stabilizer (FLPSS) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and investigates their robustness for a multi-machine power system. Speed deviation of a machine and its derivative are chosen as the input signals to the FLPSS. A four-machine and a two-area power system is used as the case study. Computer simulations for the test system subjected to transient disturbances i.e. a three phase fault, were carried out and the results showed that the proposed controller is able to prove its effectiveness and improve the system damping when compared to a conventional lead-lag based power system stabilizer controller.
This study presents the development of an Integrated Geographical Information System (GIS), Geophysical Method and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) survey for sinkhole risk modeling in selected residential area. The sinkhole phenomena in residential area have been known to be related to geological factor, environmental and local activities. To determine the subsurface structure and also the location of sinkholes of the study area, the geophysical survey which is resistivity survey was carried out by using ABEM SAS 4000. From the resistivity survey, the area that was identified to have sinkhole was tagged using GPS coordinates through GPS survey using GPS Topcon HiPER. The main part of a hydroelectric project is the dam with its natural or man made lakes or reservoirs. As in the case of many tropical countries, heavy rainfally and effects of upstream changes in landuse have caused detrimental consequences on the sedimentation. Reservoir Information system, therefore, is recognized presetly as the most suitable and efficient tool to manage the reservoir. The present study will focus on Reservoir Information system for the Pergau Hydroelectric Project, which is located in the State of Kelantan, Malaysia. This paper presents the results of the first phase of the study, i.e. on the data sources and data acquisition techniques in order to develop the Pergau Reservoir Database. The Database will be the major component part of the Pergau Reservoier Information System (PRIS).
This paper present the rainfall rate obtained from the analysis of a meteorological radar data in Malaysia. Rainfall rate is an important parameter for a microwave link because it enables the attenuation due to rain to be determined. An important parameter in rain attenuation studies is the rain rate for 0.01% of the time or R0.01. Design and system engineers use this value to construct conmunications system such that the link is available for 99.99% of the time. This result is obtained by utlizing the radar data from the Malaysian Meteorological Department. Knowing the rainfall rate, rain attenuation can be calculated. This informtion is useful for microwave link applications.
In this paper, the bow-tie microstrip antennas have been designed with two different angles of 40° and 80°. An investigaton on the effect of the angle to the return loss and radiation patterns had been carried out. The impedance matching network with the niicrostrip transmission line feeding was used in this study. Simulation and measurement results for the return loss and radiation patterns were presented.
